MMDF Approved Projects as of February 2026

The latest intake round of projects approved by the Manitoba Mineral Development Fund (MMDF) saw $1.4M distributed to eight mineral development projects across Manitoba. Below is an overview of the projects.

 

55 North Mining –Lynn Lake:

Mineral Commodity: Gold

MMDF Funding: $300,000

55 North Mining Inc., a Toronto‑based gold exploration company, is advancing its high‑grade Last Hope Gold Project near Lynn Lake, Manitoba. The initiative involves a winter diamond drilling program to expand and define the deposit, supporting the project’s progression toward economic assessment and potential mine development. With strong partnerships—most notably with Marcel Colomb First Nation—the project emphasizes local employment, procurement, and community participation. The program demonstrates solid feasibility through secured permits, experienced leadership, and a comprehensive work plan. The project is well aligned with MMDF objectives, offering clear short‑ and long‑term economic benefits.

Plethora Exploration – Fox River Belt:

MMDF Funding: $300,000

Plethora Exploration Corporation, founded in 2023, is a discovery‑driven mineral exploration company focused on responsible, pre‑discovery work in Tier‑1 jurisdictions. The T‑Bone and Pimple Projects aim to advance exploration in the Fox River Belt of Northern Manitoba through airborne surveys, drilling, and geophysical modelling. Developed in formal partnership with Fox Lake Cree Nation, the initiative prioritizes economic reconciliation, local benefits, and community engagement. The program demonstrates strong alignment with MMDF goals, featuring clear risk mitigation, transparent budgeting, and meaningful short‑ and long‑term outcomes. The project was noted for its strong Indigenous collaboration, technical capacity, and long‑term regional impact potential.

Alamos Gold – Lynn Lake:

MMDF Funding: $300,000

Alamos Gold Inc., a Toronto-based producer operating multiple mines across North America, is advancing its Lynn Lake Gold Exploration Project in northern Manitoba. The 2026 program focuses on expanding resources at the MacLellan, Gordon, and surrounding deposits through approximately 13,500 meters of drilling, infrastructure upgrades, and enhanced core management. The project supports local economic growth and strong partnerships with Marcel Colomb First Nation and Mathias Colomb Cree Nation through established IBAs. The project’s feasibility, community benefits, job creation, and alignment with MMDF objectives was notable.

102469977 Manitoba Ltd. – Manitoba:

Mineral Commodity: NA

MMDF Funding: $73,500

10246977 Manitoba Ltd., a new venture of Critical Discoveries, is developing a Manitoba-based Mining Recruitment App to modernize how mining companies and workers connect. The project will build verified worker profiles, credential and certification uploads, availability calendars, job postings, mutual ratings, and best‑match search algorithms, delivered through milestones covering authentication, onboarding, job management, search functions, and career data tools. The platform will pilot with Rodren Drilling, Critical Discoveries, and the University of Manitoba.

Carbon Lock Technologies – Northern Manitoba:

Carbon Lock Technologies Inc., a Manitoba cleantech company founded in 2020, develops carbon‑management solutions using patented pyrolytic reactor technology that converts biomass into biochar for permanent carbon sequestration. Its project, Building a Biochar Ecosystem with Communities to Support Mining Growth, proposes biochar‑based approaches for mine‑site remediation, tailings management, and soil restoration while advancing economic reconciliation through partnerships with Indigenous communities. Key activities include mine‑site profiling, stakeholder engagement, technical research, and pilot‑project planning. The project is recognized for its strong partnerships and sustainability focus.

George Nykulaik – East Side Lake Wpg:

Mineral Commodity: Prospecting

MMDF Funding: $18,295

George Nykulaik is a Manitoba prospector with extensive exploration experience, known for systematic, grassroots work across greenstone belts. His KMK Claims project on the east side of Lake Winnipeg uses drone‑based lidar, magnetics, field sampling, and XRF analysis to define mineralization zones, assess commercial potential, and support local job creation. Partnering with Indigenous‑owned Thunderbird Geospatial Inc., the project operates on Crown Land outside Treaty areas, requiring minimal early consultation. The project has strong reporting, modest investment needs, and meaningful Indigenous supplier involvement.

ONGold Resources Ltd. – Monument Bay:

MMDF Funding: $300,000

ONGold Resources Ltd., a Toronto‑based subsidiary of Northern Superior Resources, advances district‑scale exploration across Canada, including its Monument Bay gold‑tungsten project in Northeastern Manitoba. The 2026 Exploration and Training Program updates the mineral resource estimate, conducts drilling, core re‑logging, geological fieldwork, and resource modeling while delivering training and capacity‑building with Red Sucker Lake First Nation and negotiating an Early Exploration Benefit Agreement. The proposal was found feasible, well‑structured, and strongly aligned with criteria, noting robust community engagement and risk management.

T2 Metals Corporation – Sherridon:

Mineral Commodity: Copper, Gold

MMDF Funding: $75,000

T2 Metals Corp, a Vancouver-based junior explorer focused on copper, gold, zinc, silver, and energy metals, is advancing its Sherridon copper‑zinc‑gold deposit through a resource and financial modeling project designed to support a future Preliminary Economic Assessment. The work updates historical resource estimates, includes metallurgical and environmental studies, and develops financial models to assess project viability while strengthening its formal partnership with Kiciwapa Cree Nation under an existing exploration agreement. The proposal was found technically sound.
